Hello, I'm new here from the USA, where only a few people like Italo. So that makes it hard to find new music and identify songs. I joined to try and get some help, so here goes. I have the following lyrics on a mix, but don't know the song:

"Dance/ Get on down and dance/
You're the only one/ You're the best in town/
Take me high/ Make me fly tonight/
Let me know that you're real/
Be my king/ Let me sing tonight/
And all my wishes will come true/
Dance/ Get on down and dance/ etc..."

I am a big fan of Kano, Mr. Flagio, Cyber People, and all the early vocoder disco-type stuff, so if anyone has recommendations I would love to hear from you. A track list from DJ Beep's "Italo 2000 Dance Classics" would be very, very helpful.

Aussi, je connais que, pour la plupart, ce liste est européen. Je parle (et écris) un peu de français, donc si c'est plus facile pour tout le monde je peux le faire. Merci!

Thanks everyone!

Hi Automat!
Welcome on a board! You are not alone in America with your interest in Italo Disco. As you will probably notice soon, there are several people here and there, although I haven't heard about anybody from Atlanta! Where did you get familiar with such music? Are you European?
Your Polish is quite good Uśmiech What did you used to make such translation?
Your original text was:
"I am sorry but they don't teach much Polish here. But I can use this computer translator. A gramar probably makes you smile! If makes any feel at all. If this works then I will use it. Thanks!", Right? I think you can use English here, about 20-30% people can undnerstand it here.

Regarding the song you are looking for. Those lyrics look familiar to me, but there's a lack of information: who sung this (male or female), whats the name of a mix (or at least some titles it includes) etc...

Thanks -- you guys are really nice. I was kind of expecting some anti-USA feedback, but I'm glad you can stick to Italo and not politics! I lived in France for a year, and believe me I'd be back in Europe right now if it was possible. I won't bother translating the rest of this message into Polish since I am completely sure it will make no sense at all.

Wdzięczności -- was chłopcy są rzeczywiście przyjemni.

More lyrics from the track:
"I feel the rhythm / that's in the air tonight – magic night /
Let's get together / you won't believe /
we'll be dancing till the darkness leaves

Dance / Get on down and dance /
Can't you feel the sound / moving all around
You're the only one / You're the best in town

More details on the track:
The track is from DJ Beep's "Italo 2000 Dance Classics Mix" and the vocals are sung by a woman with a kind of deep voice which reminds me a little of Nico from the Velvet Underground, but not quite as low. It starts at the 32:20 mark and only goes for about 1:30, but the structure, melody and variations lead me to believe that it is probably around 6:00 long, probably longer. It has stabbing orchestra hits in the typical dramatic Italo style, supported by mellow synth sounds following the melody, but the real key to the track is a laser/whistle noise that sounds like a bird chirping with reverb, which fades out like a "bop gun" in a George Clinton / P-Funk way. The beat is around the normal 115 BPM range. When the verse is sung ("Be my king / Let me sing – tonight" etc) there is only the bird chirp sound and the beat. The the dramatic orchestra hits / synth melody starts up and the chorus comes in ("Dance / Get on down and dance" etc). It has some of the same ethereal qualities as Dolce Vita, with the spacey sounds, but it is very disco and it reminds me of Kano. It sounds like it is from 1979 – 1983, and I don't think it could be older than 1986. Whatever it is, it is a superb track, and I would really like to track it down.

Also, I had no idea Mr. Flagio had a track other than "Take a Chance". Where can I hear it? Incidentally, Automat is an artist (possibly Brazilian) who put out an album of obscure, synth instrumental stuff, kind of sounds like Vangelis, but darker and more futuristic. The record sleeve has this weird illustration of a robot looking into a pool of water reflecting a human figure. Cool stuff though. I would have used "MrFlagio" but I figured it was taken. Thanks again

Okay, I think I might have it:
C.M. Lord "You're the Only One" Wave records Cat.1217, originally released 1983, B-Side instrumental. Does that sound like a possibility? Searching on GEMM with lyric excerpts has led me to this conclusion, though I don't know for sure. Can anyone verify this song based on the lyrics provided and see if they match up? If not, then I will try to send an MP3 excerpt.
Thanks

I listed the track earlier, but it is not appearing anywhere so I am posting it again. If it's already there, then disregard the attachment. Again, I think the track is C.M. Lord's "You're The Only One" on Wave Records, 1983. If anyone can confirm this or identify the rack as something else then please let me know. Thanks!

Thank you Thank you Thank you!
The MP3 is awesome, and I just ordered the vinyl from Germany, so everything's good. Now, if anyone has a vinyl copy of Scotch "Penguin's Invasion" for sale (not likely!) I'd be happy to pay USD cash for it!

But I do have lots of other stuff you guys might like, (sorry for mentioning other types of music, I promise I won't do it very often) mostly Funk, R&B, Soul, Electro, Techno and IDM. I'm fairly certain you guys aren't interested in this, but I figured I'd mention it anyway. There is a lot of new music out there that is inspired by Italo, samples Italo songs (blasphemy!) or is simply a new interpretation of the old stuff. Examples:

DMX Krew "Sound of the Street" -- as good as the best Italo; maybe better(!)
DMX Krew "Make Me" -- same as above
Electronome "Influence" -- similar to Cyber People, Kano, Space...
I-F "Space Invaders Are Smoking Grass" -- flawless music
I-F and Fred Ventura "I Cut My Heart Out" -- heard it, but don't have it yet, very good!
Alden Tyrell "Love Explosion" -- sounds 20 years old
Macho Cat Garage "On a Night Train" -- neo-Italo from The Hague
Macho Cat Garage "Crash the Cat" -- more neo-Italo from the Hague
Parallax Corporation "Coca Disco" -- slamming disco album

Last but not least:
"Mixed Up in the Hague Vol 1" -- this is simply the best DJ mix ever made, and I have heard A LOT of them. First off, it is perfectly mixed, and the pacing of the music is flawless. It includes mostly old stuff (Take a Chance, Feel the Drive, Super Shuffle, Tour De France, Primitive World, Space Woman, Voice of Q, The Chase, World Invasion, Sharivari, Problemes d'Amour, Blade Runner [Endtitle], Man Made, etc) and a little new stuff (Love Explosion, Influence, etc) over 23 tracks. The amazing thing is that the types of music are indistinguishable from one another: the good songs play out, the best parts of others only play for a minute, and climactic builds are followed by subtle jams. But because of the licensing, they only made 750 copies. And I got one of them. I own about 1500 cds and about 1000 pieces of vinyl, and this is somewhere in the top 5.

So if anyone wants to hear this mix, I would prefer to mail you a copy (along with some other goodies) so I don't have to try and figure out how to make it all one huge MP3 track. Let me know if you are interested in swapping some Italo MP3s for some cds by mail, or anything else from the USA that you can't find in Poland or elsewhere, like peanut butter -- yum!  If you're interested, I prefer instrumentals (The Chase, Pulstar, Penguin's Invasion, Laserdance), vocoder tracks (Take A Chance, I'm Ready, Polaris), dirty, rough stuff (Bobby O's "I'm So Hot For You"), and dancey, disco stuff (Feel The Drive, Chinatown, Working Girl, Flashing On The Floor)...

I hope this doesn't seem rude of me, but it is so hard to find good Italo in America and often I have to order it from overseas and pay twice as much in shipping as the cost of the record, so I am very willing to swap music. In most cases, the music I have is hard to find, out of print or is only on vinyl, so I don't feel like I am screwing someone by copying their music for trade. After all, the love of music is what we're all here for, isn't it?
Thank you all again for the help and the MP3 -- I hope to return the favor one day!
